Description of Coverages
STS PRE-DEPARTURE TRIP CANCELLATION BENEFIT
The STS Pre-Departure Trip Cancellation Benefit provides you the right to cancel your trip for any reason up until 2 hours prior to scheduled departure time except for “no shows” and “no show” related cancellations (“no shows” include passengers who arrive at the airport or gate too late to travel or who fail to have the required proof of citizenship). Simply call 1-800-648-4849 no later than 2 hours prior to your scheduled departure (see below for additional details regarding how to file your claim). Your Benefit is effective once your travel package and the STS Travel Protection Plan are paid in full. Your STS Travel Protection Plan must be paid in full at or before the time you make final payment for your travel package.

The following non-refundable costs, charges, exclusions, and deductions apply to your cancellation:

  • The price of the STS Travel Protection Plan.


  • $100 non-refundable trip deposit.


  • Non-refundable air tickets. However, if your cancellation notification is received at least 48 hours prior to the departure date, unused air tickets may be eligible for credit toward a future booking on the same air carrier for the cost of the airline imposed re-ticketing fee. PLEASE NOTE: Eligibility for credit toward a future booking is dependent on air carrier policy and not all unused air tickets will be eligible.


  • Occupancy surcharges. Occupancy surcharges may result if the number of individuals occupying a room changes. For cancellations 30 or more days prior to scheduled departure, the remaining travelers are responsible for paying occupancy surcharges. For cancellations made less than 30 days prior to scheduled departure date, occupancy surcharges for the remaining travelers will be deducted from your refund.


  • Miscellaneous fees and charges. Any fees or charges not directly related to your travel package such as reinstatement fees, change fees, etc.


Trip Cancellation Claims – Contact Student Travel Services, Inc. (STS) at 1-800-648-4849 no later than two hours prior to your scheduled departure. STS will then forward you the appropriate form that must be completed by you. Failure to contact STS will forfeit your plan reimbursement. Refunds for cancellations will be made in the same form as the original payment and will be reduced by the items outlined above. Refunds will be processed within 48 hours of receipt of completed and approved STS forms and/or documentation.

Payment of STS Travel Protection Plan - Your cancellation right is not effective until your travel package and the STS Travel Protection Plan is paid in full to STS. Under no circumstance can the STS Travel Protection Plan be added after you have made final payment for your travel package.

Student Travel Services, Inc. provides the STS Pre-Departure Trip Cancellation Benefit and this benefit is not part of the Travel Protection Plan effective on or after your departure date and offered by our designated provider; however, the same general exclusions and limitations of coverage apply.

The STS Travel Protection Plan is non-transferable and must be repurchased if you want to have coverage on amended reservations.

Trip Interruption (Up to $1,000):
Coverage for forfeited, nonrefundable, unused payments or deposits if you must interrupt your trip due to a covered reason.

 

Trip Delay (Up to $500):
Reimburses you up to $100 a day for reasonable additional expenses (i.e. meals & lodging) if you are delayed for more than 12 hours due to a covered reason.

 

Baggage & Personal Effects (Up to $500):
Reimburses you if your luggage is lost, damaged, or stolen while you are on your trip

 

Baggage Delay (Up to $100):
Reimburses you for the purchase of essential items if your bags are delayed for more than 24 hours.

 

Medical Expenses (Up to $5,000): 
Coverage for necessary medical expenses up to one year after a covered sickness or injury that occurs while on your trip.

 

Emergency Medical Transportation (Up to $10,000):
Coverage for evacuation and transportation expenses to the nearest adequate medical facility.

 

Pre-Departure Cancellation waiver administered by STS Travel Group

Underwritten by the National Union Fire Insurance Company of Pittsburgh, PA. It is currently authorized to transact business in all states and the District of Columbia. NAIC No. 19445.

This is only a brief description of the insurance coverage(s) available under policy series T30253NUFIC. The Policy contains reductions, limitations, exclusions, and termination provisions. Full details of the coverage are contained in the Policy. If there are any conflicts between this document and the Policy, the Policy shall govern.

The STS Travel Protection Plan may not be purchased within 7 days of departure.
