Jeff Jacobsen Cornell University
President and Founder of STS
The Ultimate Success Story The making of the most successful student tour operator in the industry.
It all started in the FIJI house at Cornell University. Jeff at the time was chartering buses to take students home for Thanksgiving and Winter Break. Through hard work and providing quality service, two characteristics still present today, Jeff caught the attention of administrators at Cornell who were so impressed, they gave him exclusive rights to operate these buses (now known as Student Travel Services) on campus.
Jeff began organizing Ski Trips and then Spring Break trips. By graduation, STS was so successful Jeff moved into a larger office in downtown Ithaca where he expanded his sales efforts to other parts of Upstate NY, then to Pennsylvania, down the East Coast and all the way out to the Midwest.
By 1990, STS had partnered with a new charter airline, Miami Air who signed an exclusive agreement positioning STS as the main supplier for charter flights during Spring Break. Today, STS remains the leading air supplier for a majority of the Spring Break trips sold through tour operators, travel agents, student organizations and campus representatives.
Jeff is still a part of the everyday operations at STS and he continues to work hard to provide quality service for all travelers.
